BIG SMILE IN, BIG TUMOR OUT

With the advancement of science, technology, westernized life-style, nuclear family life and growing hostility, people feel that, humanity is dying down very fast. But this report has something different to say.
It was a busy evening in our newsroom. ETV got a story from Malkangiri- the remotest district of Orissa. This is the place where there is no basic amenities available to people. Radha Muduli, amother of two, in her 40s , was unable to move because of her protruded belly. Round the clock she was lying on the bed. As per the local doctor, she had developed an abdominal tumour since last 5 years. It was growing rapidly.
Even doctor had advised her to undergo a surgery. But Radha was too poor to afford the operation. Our Malkangiri reporter Ranjeet Saha filed a meaningful story narrating the plight of Radha, her familyand her struggle for survival. We aired this particular story twice in our 1.00pm national bulletin and 7.00pm regional "Aamari Odisha"bulletin. Just after the bulletin, a Professor from SCB Medical College, Cuttack Dr. Bhuban Mohan Moharana contacted our Cuttack reporter Jayant Kumar Panda and expressed his willingness to extend support for the treatment of Radha free of cost.
This is not the end, the president of Utkal Chemist and Druggist Association Mr. Prabir Kumar from Bhubaneswar and an NGO- Radhanath Swasthya Sahayak Kendra also extended their support simultaneously. On the other hand, the district administration of Malkangiri also came forward to provide the assistance to the deprived Radha.
Radha, who had never seen her district head quarter Malkangiri, was taken to Cuttack. A team of 4 specialist doctors operated on her abdomen and removed the tumor of 35 Kg. weight. Gradually she recovered from illness. There was a grand welcome for her in her remote village. Finally she smiled and so her family and doctors. Itwas a victory of humanity. Victor was Radha, victors too were the doctors, the benevolent hearts and of course the ETV report.
This type of stories gives immense pleasure and gives a feeling of responsible media always for the people.
This write up was earlier written by me and published in our in house journal "ETVIANS"
